Peer Review Process

Steps of the Peer Review Process

1.Submission of Manuscript:
The corresponding author submits the manuscript through NJOG’s online submission system.

2.Preliminary Structural Check:
The Executive Director evaluates the manuscript to ensure it complies with the journal's Author Guidelines in terms of structure, formatting, and necessary components.

3.Initial Editorial Assessment:
The Editor-in-Chief assesses the manuscript's originality, scientific relevance, and alignment with the journal’s scope. Manuscripts failing to meet these standards may be desk-rejected without external review.

4.Plagiarism Screening:
All manuscripts are checked for similarity using iThenticate. If similarity exceeds 20%, the manuscript is automatically rejected.

5.Reviewer Invitation:
The Editor-in-Chief invites qualified external reviewers. If the required number of acceptances (minimum of two) is not reached, additional invitations are sent.

6.Reviewer Response:
Reviewers assess the manuscript based on their expertise, disclose any conflicts of interest, and confirm their availability to review.

7.Manuscript Review:
Reviewers critically evaluate the manuscript, often in multiple readings, and submit a detailed report with a recommendation: accept, reject, or revise (major or minor revisions).

8.Editorial Evaluation of Reviews:
The Editor-in-Chief examines all reviewer reports. If there are significant discrepancies between reviewers, a third expert may be consulted.

9.Primary Editorial Decision:
The Editor-in-Chief sends a decision email to the corresponding author, including anonymous reviewer feedback.

10.Revised Manuscript Submission:
If revisions are requested, the author must revise the manuscript accordingly and highlight changes using red font or yellow highlighting.

11.Final Decision & Publication:
Upon final acceptance, the author is required to pay the publication fee. The manuscript is then forwarded to the layout designer and finally to the publisher.
